Philippines tennis star Alexandra Eala produced another stunning performance by winning the Mubadala DC Open women’s singles title in Washington DC. After defeating world No. 3 Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon last month, Eala continued her impressive form by beating top seed Jessica Pegula of the USA 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the final.
The victory marked Eala’s first-ever WTA Tour title and made her the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA title. Despite losing the opening set in a rain-delayed final, Eala made a strong comeback and dominated the match. She also defeated Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinal and Naomi Osaka in the semifinal en route to the championship.
