More than 100 activists reportedly broke into a Microsoft data centre construction site in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as part of a protest against the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. The protesters climbed cranes at the construction site and displayed banners opposing AI development. Their action brought attention to growing concerns among activist groups about the increasing construction of large-scale data centres to support AI technologies.
The incident marks the beginning of two days of coordinated protests planned across 16 countries. Activists are using these demonstrations to raise concerns about the rapid growth of AI infrastructure and its wider impact. The protests reflect increasing opposition from groups questioning the pace and scale of investment in data centres and the expansion of artificial intelligence.
