Political circles in Tamil Nadu believe that TVK chief Vijay may have made a strategic error during the government formation process. Analysts say Vijay should have initially submitted a letter to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar with signatures only from the 108 elected TVK MLAs. As the single largest party in the Assembly, such a move could have strengthened his claim and possibly led to an immediate invitation to form the government.
Instead, Vijay reportedly began coalition discussions early and sought support from Congress and smaller parties. Congress, which won five seats, extended its support, and their MLAs’ signatures were also included in the letter submitted to the Governor on May 6. Political observers believe the Governor interpreted this as an attempt to form a coalition government with 112 members rather than a claim as the single largest party. As a result, Vijay was reportedly asked to return with the required majority mark of 118 signatures. Analysts say this political miscalculation delayed his swearing-in process and exposed a lack of strategic guidance in his transition from cinema to politics.
