CM Revanth Reddy Directs Officials to Maximise Utilisation of Godavari Waters

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Irrigation Department to make maximum use of Godavari waters and undertake lifting operations to the fullest possible extent from the Ellampalli, Devadula and Sitarama projects. The Chief Minister reviewed the department’s activities along with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy at the MCRHRD campus in Hyderabad. Officials were instructed to focus on resolving minor technical issues affecting lifting operations from Devadula and Sitarama.

During the meeting, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said lifting operations at Devadula were being carried out with nine pumps, a scale not previously achieved. The Chief Minister also directed officials to strictly follow the National Dam Safety Authority’s recommendations regarding water storage at the Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda barrages. He called for consultations with the NDSA after several deficiencies were reportedly identified at Medigadda and Sundilla. Revanth Reddy further ordered irrigation and revenue officials to conduct field visits, prepare factual reports on submerged villages, compensation and rehabilitation, and immediately pay compensation to villages likely to be affected. He said completing these measures could enable water filling in the Baswapur and Gouravelli projects. The Chief Minister also ordered a comprehensive study on enhancing the lifting capacity of the Gattu and Gudendoddi projects and directed officials to appoint a consultant for the Gudendoddi pumped-storage project.
