Telangana High Court Puts Interim Stay on Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak Schemes

The Telangana High Court on Wednesday ordered an interim stay on the state government’s Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes for four weeks. The court passed the order while hearing a petition filed by advocate Vijay Gopal challenging the constitutional validity and legal basis of the schemes. The petitioner argued that the schemes were being implemented through government orders without being backed by legislation enacted by the state legislature.

During the proceedings, the High Court had directed the Telangana government to submit a counter-affidavit in response to the petition. However, the government did not file its counter within the stipulated period. Following this, the court issued the interim stay and adjourned the matter for further hearing. The next hearing has been scheduled after four weeks. The schemes provide one-time financial assistance to eligible brides at the time of marriage and have been in operation in Telangana for several years.
