According to claims made by a rebel faction within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Arup Roy has been appointed as the new president of the group, while Arup Biswas and Firhad Hakim have been named vice presidents. The faction has also reportedly announced the removal of Mamata Banerjee from the position of chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress. However, these developments have not been officially recognized by the party's central leadership.
The rebel group is expected to approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) under Paragraph 15 of the Election Symbols Order, seeking recognition and staking a claim to the party symbol. The developments have sparked political debate in West Bengal, with observers drawing comparisons to leadership disputes witnessed in parties led by Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray. The outcome will depend on legal and electoral processes in the coming weeks.
