The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to appoint special officers to manage village panchayats starting from the 2nd of next month. This arrangement will continue until the next elections are held.
Since the term of the current sarpanches ends on April 2 and elections cannot be conducted immediately, the government has decided to continue administration through special officers for a few months. The government intends to hold elections after appointing a new Election Commissioner and completing the reservation process. The current State Election Commissioner, Neelam Sahni, will complete her term by the end of this month.
