Chief Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list will be started soon in Telangana. He said this process will serve as a model for the entire country. He also suggested that the successful SIR process completed in Bihar should be taken as the standard reference.
On Sunday, Ganesh Kumar met with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at Ravindra Bharathi. During the meeting, he said, "BLOs are the backbone of India’s election system, and the success of voter list cleanup depends on their dedication and hard work". Highlighting Bihar’s example, he noted that around 75 million voters exercised their right to vote without any complaints, re-polling or recounting, making the process fully successful. Gyanesh Kumar also pointed out that Telangana is larger than Canada and once the voter list cleanup is complete, election administration in the state will enter a new era. Low polling in urban areas is mainly due to voter apathy, while rural voters enthusiastically stand in queues to exercise their rights. He emphasized that elections in India are conducted strictly according to the law, which everyone must follow.
Additionally, he mentioned that nearly three decades after India joined International IDEA in 1995, the country has now obtained its chairmanship. This highlights the Election Commission of India as one of the most reliable and innovative election management institutions globally. India has over 900 million voters across 28 states and 8 union territories.
