Y. S. Sharmila, the state president of the Congress party, strongly criticized the rule of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. She alleged that during the five years of YSRCP governance, a liquor mafia produced low-quality alcohol and caused a loss to the state’s revenue. She made these remarks during a public meeting held in Duddukuru village of Devarapalli mandal in East Godavari district as part of the employment guarantee protection yatra.
Sharmila claimed that during the YSRCP rule, drugs entered the state in containers and became easily available. She also criticized Jagan for promising to pressure Narendra Modi to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh but later moving closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party. She added that the idea of three capitals resulted in the state not having even one clear capital.
She also questioned why leaders were silent when the height of the Polavaram Project was being reduced. She asked why the state was not strongly opposing the central government’s actions affecting the employment guarantee scheme. Sharmila said the Congress party has always supported women and noted that the credit for giving 50 percent reservation for women in political positions goes to Congress. Several party leaders also attended the event.
