Prominent Kollywood producer and film industry representative G. Dhananjayan has expressed strong displeasure over the reviews emerging from overseas premiere shows of the recently released ‘Sardar 2’. While audiences have reportedly appreciated the film as a commercial sequel with high production values and a strong father-son emotional angle, Dhananjayan expressed concern that some reviewers were allegedly creating a negative narrative even before the film’s official release in India.
Dhananjayan said that advance social media reviews, released before the 9 AM IST shows in India, can influence the mood of general audiences and cause serious losses to producers who invest heavily in films. He has therefore called for the complete cancellation of early premiere shows in countries such as the US, Malaysia and Singapore. He said audiences should be given at least a day to experience the film, and that he would push through the Producers’ Association for simultaneous overseas screenings in line with Indian Standard Time.
