Ramchander Rao Targets CM Over Youth Issue

N. Ramchander Rao, state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is attempting to divert the attention of youth by proposing to reduce the minimum age for contesting legislative elections to 21 years. Speaking on Monday after paying tributes to former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary, he said the move is aimed at shifting focus from the failures and unfulfilled promises of the Congress government. He noted that the Constitution makers, including B. R. Ambedkar, had fixed the minimum age at 25 years to ensure maturity and experience among legislators.

Rao said that while the BJP is open to the proposal of reducing the age to 21, the Chief Minister must first demonstrate sincerity by appointing a young MLA as the Education Minister. He also welcomed the High Court’s verdict against the ‘Hydra’ Commissioner A. V. Ranganath, stating that the BJP had consistently opposed policies perceived as anti-poor. He urged the government to implement the court’s directions without delay and accused it of ignoring earlier concerns raised by the party.
