Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the water conservation initiatives undertaken in Anantapur district, highlighting how community participation has helped restore greenery in the region. He said people took responsibility for cleaning water bodies and contributing to environmental protection.
Addressing the nation during the first episode of Mann Ki Baat in 2026 on Sunday, January 25, the Prime Minister referred to Anantapur as an inspiring example. He noted that the district had long struggled with severe drought due to its red, sandy soil and chronic water scarcity.
To overcome these challenges, local residents, with the support of government officials, launched a water conservation project focused on restoring traditional water sources. As part of this effort, more than ten water bodies were rejuvenated and over 7,000 saplings were planted.
The Prime Minister said these collective efforts have led to water returning to the restored reservoirs, demonstrating the power of public participation. He emphasized that water conservation must be seen as a shared duty of citizens, not just a government initiative.
