Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a major initiative aimed at empowering the state’s auto drivers. During the launch of the “Auto Driverla Sevalo Scheme”, Naidu revealed that the government will provide ₹15,000 in financial aid to each registered auto driver through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This assistance will cover around 2.9 lakh beneficiaries, including cab and max-cab operators, along with the creation of a Welfare Board for auto drivers.
Notably, the new benefit of ₹15,000 is ₹5,000 more than the amount given under YSR Vahan Mitra during the previous government. In a forward-looking move, the government is also working on a state-run ride-booking app, similar to Uber or Ola, to connect passengers directly with auto drivers. Through this digital platform, commuters can book autos via their phones, while drivers can receive ride requests, digital payments, and fare calculations — all in one app.Officials shared that over two lakh registered auto drivers will be integrated into this digital network. For passengers, the app promises fair pricing, safer rides, and reliable last-mile connectivity.
The project will first be piloted in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada before expanding statewide, with a target launch in 2026. The app will also be linked to existing transport and welfare schemes, forming a unified mobility ecosystem.
Experts believe this initiative could become a game-changer — improving drivers’ income, ensuring transparent fares, and giving the government access to real-time transport data for better city planning.
For thousands of auto drivers across Andhra Pradesh, this move represents dignity, stability, and digital empowerment, while giving citizens a trusted, modern way to travel.
