BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has reacted to the arrest of the party’s social media convener, Manne Krishank. In a post on X, KTR questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the action, alleging that the Telangana Congress government was acting contrary to Gandhi’s stated positions on free speech and democratic values. KTR alleged that Krishank was arrested over a social media post criticising the government and claimed that police entered his residence and took him into custody. He also alleged that Krishank’s daughter was left distressed during the police action.
KTR further alleged that the Telangana government was disregarding court directions concerning arrests over social media posts. He questioned whether criticising the ruling government amounted to a crime and whether this was an appropriate way to arrest an opposition leader. Reports have previously stated that the Supreme Court upheld directions of the Telangana High Court requiring preliminary inquiry and verification in cases involving political criticism on social media, rather than mechanically registering cases.
