Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that BRS chief KCR apologise to the people of Telangana for the damage caused to the irrigation sector. He alleged that corruption and wrong decisions during KCR’s tenure led to the collapse of several irrigation projects and said protests cannot replace accountability for past mistakes.
Uttam questioned KCR over the Krishna water allocations, asking whether he had agreed at the Apex Council meeting to accept lower shares for Telangana as per the Bachawat Tribunal. He rejected claims that the Palamuru – Rangareddy project was 90% complete, stating that costs were escalated without completing the work and that the DPR was returned by the Centre during the BRS regime. He said the present government is fighting in the tribunal for more than 500 TMC of Krishna water for Telangana.
The minister accused KCR of colluding with Andhra Pradesh leaders and indirectly supporting Rayalaseema lift irrigation projects, harming Telangana’s interests. He criticised the Kaleshwaram project for massive spending without generating new ayacut and questioned why several pending projects were left incomplete. Uttam advised KCR to come prepared before addressing the media and asserted that paddy cultivation in the state increased significantly only after the Congress came to power.
