BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao alleged that the Congress government was failing to release water to farmers in the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut despite sufficient water being available in the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs. Speaking at a farmers’ protest organised by the BRS in Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district, on Thursday, KTR demanded that the government announce a water-release schedule for the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut before the Vinayaka Chavithi festival on September 14.
KTR warned that the BRS would undertake a padayatra with thousands of farmers from Kodad to Haliya, or in the opposite direction, if the government failed to announce the schedule. He also alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was diverting Krishna water as a political favour to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. KTR said the issue would be raised during the Assembly session beginning September 7. Former minister G. Jagadish Reddy and former Miryalaguda MLA Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao also raised concerns over the water shortage affecting farmers in the ayacut.
