Kalvakuntla Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruthi, is continuing her indefinite hunger strike demanding justice for families whose houses were demolished in Velugumatla village of Khammam district. Kavitha began the fast on Monday night in Khammam, but police detained her on Tuesday morning and shifted her to Hyderabad. She is now continuing the protest at the Telangana Jagruthi central office in Banjara Hills.
Speaking during the protest, Kavitha demanded that the government construct new houses at the same locations where the homes were demolished in Velugumatla. She asserted that her hunger strike will continue until the government gives a clear assurance. She alleged that the government has no right to occupy Bhoodan lands and accused it of demolishing houses of poor families to hand over valuable land to influential people as property prices rise. She also questioned why Rahul Gandhi has not responded to the issue and urged the Chief Minister and ministers from Khammam district to intervene and ensure justice for the poor.
