JD Vance Emerges as Top Name in Race to Succeed Trump

Although the 2028 US presidential election is still two years away, speculation over who could succeed Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee has already begun. The upcoming November midterm elections are expected to serve as a key test of Trump’s popularity and his administration’s standing with voters. Against this backdrop, Vice President JD Vance’s appearance at a Republican gathering in Dallas has attracted particular attention. Supporters repeatedly chanted “JD” and even called for “JD 48”, referring to Vance potentially becoming the 48th US president. Vance, however, urged Republicans to focus first on the November elections rather than discuss the next presidential race.

Vance is currently seen as one of the prominent potential contenders, but he has not announced whether he will run for president, and Trump has not formally named a successor. Other Republican figures, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, are also being discussed. Rubio, who competed against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, continues to be viewed by some party supporters as a future presidential candidate. Some Republicans have even speculated that Vance and Rubio could potentially form a presidential and vice-presidential ticket in 2028, although no such decision has been made.
