BRS senior leader T Harish Rao has reacted to the Telangana High Court’s judgment in the Danam Nagender disqualification case. He alleged that the Congress government has adopted double standards on constitutional principles. Harish Rao questioned the handling of Nagender’s disqualification after he won the Khairatabad Assembly seat on a BRS ticket, later joined the Congress and contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate. The High Court has now disqualified Nagender under the anti-defection law.
Harish Rao also referred to the Congress party’s 2024 election manifesto and its stated position on defections and the Tenth Schedule. He urged the Speaker to act on the disqualification petitions against other MLAs who switched parties in accordance with the Constitution and the law. Addressing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Harish Rao said that if the party was genuinely committed to protecting the Constitution, the defected MLAs should resign and seek a fresh mandate from the people. He concluded his statement with the words, “Satyameva Jayate”.
