In a significant development in the phone tapping case, senior BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao received major relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court declined to interfere with the earlier verdict delivered by the Telangana High Court, effectively strengthening Rao’s position in the case.
The Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave Petition filed by the Telangana government, which sought permission to question Harish Rao in connection with the alleged phone tapping incident. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra presented arguments on behalf of the state government.
Earlier, real estate businessman Chakradhar Goud had lodged a complaint at the Panjagutta Police Station, alleging that his phone was illegally tapped. Following the registration of the case, Harish Rao approached the Telangana High Court, challenging the FIR. The High Court, citing lack of credible evidence, quashed the case.
Challenging this decision, the state government moved the Supreme Court. However, during the hearing, the bench led by Justice B V Nagarathna made it clear that there was no reason to interfere with the High Court’s ruling, and refused to entertain the SLP.
