Tech giant Google, along with its subsidiary Raiden, has signed an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a data center in Visakhapatnam. This mega project will bring an investment of nearly $15 billion to the state and create thousands of job opportunities, according to CM Chandrababu Naidu. IT experts and industry analysts agree that this will completely transform Vizag’s economic and digital landscape.
However, the question was — how would the opposition YSRCP react? Surprisingly, former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has welcomed the initiative. Speaking to the media, he appreciated the move, saying it would help build a strong tech ecosystem in Vizag.
Jagan added that the project would drive hotel constructions, boost local land values, and improve overall connectivity in the city — thereby generating more revenue for the government. He also stated that he would not “blindly oppose” any development initiative.
Yet, Jagan expressed his disappointment that the groundwork for this project was laid during his tenure, but Chandrababu is not acknowledging it. He also revealed that Adani Group is a key partner in this venture, investing around ₹87,000 crore.
According to him, the previous YSRCP government had planned to generate 25,000 local jobs, and he lamented that the current government failed to mention this aspect.
Despite his frustration over the lack of credit, Jagan’s positive response has come as a pleasant surprise to the ruling TDP leaders.
