The Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule for the much-awaited assembly elections in five states today. The poll dates for the legislative assemblies of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will be revealed during a press conference scheduled at 4 PM. The announcement will take place at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
With the tenure of the current governments in these states nearing completion, preparations for conducting the elections are already underway. Teams from the Election Commission have visited the respective states to review security arrangements and polling preparedness. Political circles are particularly eager to know the number of phases in which the elections will be conducted, especially in West Bengal. Once the schedule is announced, the Model Code of Conduct will come into immediate effect in all the poll-bound states.
