The United States appears to be increasing its strategic focus on Cuba, with recent developments indicating rising geopolitical tensions. The deployment of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier into the Caribbean Sea, along with a carrier strike group including advanced fighter jets and naval assets, highlights a significant military presence in the region. These moves, coupled with recent statements by US President Donald Trump, have intensified speculation about Washington’s intentions toward Cuba.
At the same time, Cuba is strengthening its defences by acquiring around 300 armed drones, reportedly preparing for potential conflict scenarios. The US has also filed criminal charges against senior Cuban leader Raul Castro over a 1996 incident involving the downing of civilian aircraft. In response, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel rejected the allegations, accusing the US of escalating pressure. Trump’s recent remarks about supporting “freedom” in Cuba have further fueled tensions, drawing global attention to the evolving situation.
