Signs of a political realignment are emerging within the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in Tamil Nadu. Differences reportedly surfaced after Congress extended support to TVK without prior consultation with the DMK, leading to tensions between the long-time allies. Political observers note that the dispute has gradually widened, with several alliance partners appearing increasingly open to exploring political cooperation with TVK following its strong performance in the recent Assembly elections.
The DMK has also distanced itself from the INDIA bloc, reiterating that it will not participate in future alliance meetings. Meanwhile, parties such as VCK, MDMK, CPI, and CPM have made statements indicating growing dissatisfaction within the alliance framework. TVK, on the other hand, is reportedly working towards strengthening its coalition base ahead of upcoming local body and parliamentary elections. Amid these developments, DMK leaders have hinted at the possibility of a new national-level political front involving parties that are independent of both the BJP and Congress-led alliances, potentially reshaping political dynamics in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
