Minister Ponnam Issues Key Directives Over Hyderabad Rains

Hyderabad in-charge Minister and Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to remain alert following heavy rains in the city in the early hours. During a video conference with officials from GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, HYDRA, electricity, police and revenue departments, he reviewed the situation and instructed them to take immediate preventive measures to avoid waterlogging and inconvenience to the public. He urged all departments to work in close coordination and continuously monitor the situation.

In view of weather department warnings, the minister asked officials in Hyderabad and neighbouring areas to remain particularly vigilant. With the possibility of heavy rainfall in Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts, he directed officials to closely monitor the catchment areas of Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar. If the reservoirs fill up and gates need to be opened, advance information should be shared with all concerned departments and people living along the Musi river should be alerted. Arrangements should also be kept ready to shift residents of low-lying areas to safer locations if required.

As Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are underway, officials were instructed to pay special attention to Ganesh pandals, immersion points, roads and low-lying areas. The minister also directed authorities to immediately remove silt and debris generated during desilting works from roads and areas near drains to prevent obstruction of rainwater flow. Airtech machines and monsoon emergency teams should be kept fully prepared for quick response. Stressing the need for field-level monitoring, Ponnam Prabhakar said officials should not limit themselves to office reviews and should resolve problems on the ground. “Let us stay alert and keep people alert,” he said, urging departments to work together for public safety.
