A central government team is scheduled to visit Andhra Pradesh today to assess the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Arnab. The cyclone has severely affected agricultural and horticultural crops across several districts, leaving farmers with significant losses. According to preliminary estimates, paddy crops spread across more than three lakh hectares have been damaged. West Godavari district has reported particularly heavy losses, with paddy crops across approximately 1.83 lakh acres flattened by strong winds and heavy rainfall. Thousands of coconut trees have also fallen in the Godavari districts.
Apart from paddy and coconut plantations, banana, papaya, turmeric and vegetable crops have suffered extensive damage. Aquaculture has also been affected, with fish and shrimp ponds spread across approximately 4,720 acres reported damaged. During the visit, the central team is expected to inspect affected areas and assess the extent of the losses. The assessment will help determine the damage caused by the cyclone and the assistance required for affected farmers and aquaculture operators.
