Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Union Minister Prahlad Joshi at Hotel Taj Krishna on Thursday and requested that the central government consider distributing fine rice through ration shops across the country.
Revanth explained that Telangana is the only state supplying fine-quality rice to ration card holders and said that welfare schemes serve their true purpose only when the public receives food grains they actually consume. He urged the Union Minister to study Telangana’s model and explore the possibility of implementing it nationwide.
Prahlad Joshi responded positively and assured that the Centre would conduct a detailed study before taking a decision on introducing fine rice distribution across India.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and several senior officials also attended the meeting.
Currently, Telangana provides 6 kg of fine rice per person per month to all white ration card holders. This initiative began on April 1 this year as part of the promises made during the state election campaign.
