Houthi rebels launched a deadly attack on a government security forces training camp in Yemen’s Shabwa province on Monday, killing 53 people and injuring 200, according to local officials. Official sources said the Iran-backed rebels fired three ballistic missiles at the security forces while a training programme was underway at the camp.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed on X that the group had targeted a training camp in Yemen, alleging that it was operated by Saudi forces. Saudi officials have not responded to his remarks. Government forces have intensified efforts this month to recapture areas under Houthi control. The fighting has escalated following developments involving the Bab el-Mandeb Strait last month, amid the ongoing conflict between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognised government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition.
