Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin announced good news for women in the state. Under the Kalaingar scheme, he stated that a total of ₹5,000 per beneficiary has been credited to the accounts of 1.31 crore women. The government already provides a monthly assistance of ₹1,000 and for February, March and April, an additional ₹3,000 has been credited as a consolidated amount. On top of this, a “Summer Special” of ₹2,000 has been added, bringing the total benefit to ₹5,000. In a video message, Stalin also promised that if his government is re-elected in the April-May Assembly elections, the monthly assistance for women beneficiaries will be increased to ₹2,000.
Stalin alleged that the BJP and AIADMK were conspiring to block the regular ₹1,000 monthly aid citing the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct. To prevent disruption, the government decided to credit the February, March and April installments at once to women’s accounts. Additionally, the ₹2,000 Summer Special has been credited to cover extra expenses during the season. This move ensures uninterrupted support to women beneficiaries ahead of the upcoming elections.
