The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated formal seat-sharing negotiations with the AIADMK for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, reportedly eyeing at least 50 constituencies to strengthen its footprint in the state. Following recent discussions between top leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the BJP is pushing for a larger share of seats compared to previous elections, citing its growing influence in several pockets of Tamil Nadu.
While the AIADMK is reportedly inclined to offer around 25 to 30 seats, the BJP’s demand for 50 seats remains a key point of discussion as both parties aim to consolidate the anti-DMK vote bank. These negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) looks to finalize its electoral strategy and accommodate other regional allies.
