The BJP government in West Bengal has begun removing the ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo from official platforms and replacing it with the national Ashoka emblem. The branding, introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was widely used to promote Bengal’s culture, tourism, and handicrafts. As part of the changes, the ‘Biswa Bangla’ board at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata was removed and replaced with the Ashoka emblem.
The changes are also visible on digital platforms, including the ‘Egiye Bangla’ portal, where the Ashoka emblem has replaced the earlier logo. The government has also redesigned icons related to tourism, agriculture, and industries using saffron-themed graphics. BJP leaders defended the move, stating that a logo designed by an individual should not serve as the official symbol of a state government. The updated portal now also features the photograph of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
