Rebel Trinamool Congress MP Basunia has made a significant political claim, stating that 17 MPs from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The statement has triggered speculation over a possible shift in the political equations at the national level. Basunia further claimed that three Muslim MPs would remain with the NCP.
According to Basunia’s claim, if the 17 NCP MPs join the BJP, the party’s strength in the Lok Sabha would increase to 257. However, the development is currently being reported as a political claim, and the proposed switch would need to be formally confirmed by the concerned MPs and parties. The reported move, if it materialises, could have implications for the balance of numbers in the Lok Sabha.
