A student from Hyderabad has raised concerns over alleged gender bias in a recent Intermediate second-year English question paper. The paper included dialogue-writing questions where one scenario involved a mother teaching cooking to her daughter, while another focused on a father discussing future plans with his son. Questioning this portrayal, the student argued whether cooking should be associated only with girls and future planning only with boys, calling for a more balanced and inclusive approach in the education system.
The student, Mahima Keerthana, who studied at a government junior college in Kachiguda, expressed her concerns in a letter addressed to Revanth Reddy. She highlighted that both her parents share household responsibilities and that she herself is a national-level rifle shooter and a champion at the 2023 Under-19 School Games Federation of India competition. Emphasizing the importance of equality in education, she urged authorities to revise such content to eliminate gender stereotypes.
