In the wake of his recent election to the Rajya Sabha, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from his Member of Legislative Council (MLC) position on Monday (March 30). As per constitutional norms, an individual cannot hold membership in two legislative bodies simultaneously. Accordingly, he stepped down from his MLC post before assuming his new role in the Rajya Sabha. He personally submitted his resignation letter to Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh. Reports also suggest that he may soon resign from the Chief Minister’s post.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Nitin Nabin also resigned from his position as the Bankipur MLA, as he prepares to enter national politics as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. On this occasion, he shared an emotional message with his constituents and party workers, stating that this is not the end of his political journey but rather a new beginning in public service. He also recalled entering politics in 2006 following the demise of his father.
With Nitish Kumar moving towards national politics, the formation of a new government in Bihar appears imminent. Political circles suggest that the BJP, being the largest party in the Assembly, is likely to form the next government. Adding to the political developments, Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar recently joined the party, sparking speculation about his possible appointment as Deputy Chief Minister in the upcoming government.
