Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained 41 Chinese nationals over alleged involvement in investment scams. The FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Islamabad detained 258 foreign nationals during an operation at Sparco Plaza in Gulberg Greens. Officials alleged that some nationals from China, Vietnam and Indonesia were operating an illegal call centre.
FIA Director General Usman Anwar said most of the suspects allegedly posed as women on mobile applications and online platforms to establish contact with Pakistani citizens. They allegedly gained victims’ trust before luring them into fraudulent business and investment schemes by promising unusually high returns. After receiving money, the suspects allegedly cut off communication or blocked the victims. A case has been registered under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
