Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Partition of India shattered countless lives and deeply affected numerous families. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives and loved ones during the Partition and praised the courage of the victims who endured immense suffering. The government observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day every year on the eve of Independence Day. The day has been observed since 2021 to remember those who lost their lives during Partition, mass migrations and the violence that followed.
Modi said people who suffered during the Partition overcame adversity and rebuilt their lives despite the immense hardships they faced. Many families were separated and countless people experienced deep pain, yet the survivors contributed to the progress of the country. Their lives, he said, continue to inspire citizens to preserve harmony and fraternity and work collectively towards building a developed India.
