CV Anand Sajjanar has warned citizens about a new cyber fraud in Hyderabad where scammers are targeting people in the name of water bill payments. Fraudsters are calling residents pretending to be officials and threatening to disconnect water supply if pending bills are not cleared immediately. They then send a malicious link asking users to install an application file to update payment details.
Once the file is installed, fraudsters gain complete access to the victim’s mobile phone, monitor activities, divert calls, and steal banking OTPs to withdraw money instantly. Citizens are advised not to panic and to avoid installing any unknown files. Payments should be made only through official websites or authorized applications. In case of any suspicious calls or fraud, people should immediately report to authorities by calling 1930 or registering a complaint on the cyber crime portal.
