In a rare and heartwarming incident from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a family celebrated their daughter’s divorce as a moment of dignity and new beginnings. After the court granted divorce to Praneeta Vashistha, daughter of retired judge Dr. Gyanendra Kumar, she was welcomed outside the court with flower showers, music, and a grand procession to her home. The family also distributed sweets and expressed their support by wearing T-shirts with messages of love for their daughter.
According to details, Praneeta, who holds a master’s degree in psychology, had faced physical and mental harassment in her marriage to an army officer. Choosing to step out of the troubled relationship, she filed for divorce without seeking alimony. Her father stated that a daughter’s happiness and self-respect are more important than societal expectations. Praneeta urged women facing abuse to stand up for themselves, be independent, and prioritize education and strength over societal pressure.
