Despite the ceasefire between United States and Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, with maritime movement yet to return to normal. Following continued attacks by Israel on Lebanon, Iran has once again restricted access to the strait. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly deployed a large number of sea mines and released charts through affiliated agencies outlining danger zones and safer navigation routes for vessels.
Reports indicate that high-risk zones are concentrated along commonly used shipping lanes, with Iran advising ships to sail closer to its territory near Larak Island to avoid danger. It remains unclear whether the mines are still active or have been removed. Shipping activity has sharply declined, with only four vessels crossing the strait on the first day after the ceasefire, according to tracking data. Iran has reportedly limited transit to 15 ships per day and mandated prior approval from the IRGC. Meanwhile, India has issued an advisory urging its sailors to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in the region.
