Kollywood star actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Thalapathy Vijay has received relief from the court. The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition alleging that he had provided false information in his election affidavit. Amid ongoing controversies in his film career, political journey, personal life and legal challenges, this verdict comes as a significant relief for Vijay. The petition, filed by Perambur constituency voter Venkatesh, questioned Vijay’s declaration in his affidavit stating that he had given a loan of ₹12.60 crore to his wife, Sangeetha. The petitioner raised doubts, citing that the couple is reportedly undergoing divorce proceedings and questioned the legitimacy of such a large financial transaction. Concerns were also raised regarding ₹20 crore reportedly given to a private educational trust, alleging lack of transparency and possible concealment of assets to mislead voters.
However, a bench comprising Chief Justice S. A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan dismissed the petition, stating that a similar plea had already been rejected earlier and therefore could not be reconsidered. A separate case regarding disclosure of ₹100 crore in assets is still under investigation. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections witnessed intense competition among the ruling DMK alliance, the AIADMK-BJP alliance and Vijay’s newly formed TVK party, which marked its presence in a three-way contest. The elections recorded a high voter turnout of 85.1%, and results are expected on May 4, adding to the political suspense. On the film front, Vijay’s final movie “Jana Nayagan” continues to face multiple hurdles, including censorship issues, OTT disputes and piracy leaks. These developments have resulted in significant setbacks, making this a crucial phase in Vijay’s cinematic and political career.
