Amid rising tensions in West Asia, the United Nations has issued a major warning regarding the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The UN cautioned that if the strategic waterway is shut down, global food prices and the cost of living could rise significantly. The strait plays a crucial role in the transportation of oil and international trade, making it vital for the global economy.
The United Nations further stated that any disruption to the movement of ships and oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz could seriously affect international trade and economic stability. Such a situation may also hinder global development and create significant challenges for several countries dependent on energy imports. These concerns were highlighted in a report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
