Violence has flared up once again in the state of Manipur, leading to a tense situation. A foot march organized in Imphal by the Integrity Coordination Committee—representing the Meitei community—triggered the unrest. An atmosphere of anxiety already prevailed in the state following clashes between the Kuki and Naga tribes over the past two days.
A heated altercation ensued between protesters and the police when authorities blocked the committee's foot march as it attempted to proceed toward the Chief Minister's residence. As the situation spiraled out of control, the police resorted to using tear gas to disperse the protesters. Consequently, the situation on the ground became even more volatile.
In the wake of these violent incidents, security measures across the state have been tightened. Internet services have been suspended statewide to curb the spread of misinformation. Heavy security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, including Imphal. The government continues to take measures to restore law and order.
