The Telangana government has issued an official clarification regarding the proposal to provide free travel for passengers in MMTS trains. Authorities stated that the proposal is currently under examination in coordination with South Central Railway, and no final decision has been taken yet. The proposal was formally submitted on April 7, 2026, by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area (HMA) and the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department.
South Central Railway has responded by requesting a detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with specific terms and conditions before proceeding further. Officials clarified that decisions related to train operations, schedules, and passenger facilities fall under the authority of the Railway Board. The proposal will be forwarded for approval after incorporating all necessary details. The government has urged the public not to believe misleading information circulating on social media and to rely only on official announcements.
