The Telangana government has officially released detailed caste census data, revealing complete information about different communities in the state. Earlier, the government had only shared population percentages of OC, BC, SC and ST groups. However, with the central government planning constituency delimitation based on the 2011 Census, the state government has now disclosed full caste-wise population data along with social, economic, educational and political indicators.
According to the report, Backward Classes (BCs) make up 56.33% of the total population, including 10.08% backward Muslims. Scheduled Castes (SCs) account for 17.43%, Scheduled Tribes (STs) 10.45% and Other Castes (OCs) 15.79%. Among OCs, the Reddy community has the highest population share at 30.47%, followed by OC Muslims (11.08%), Vaishyas (9.07%), Kammas (6.56%), Brahmins (5.98%) and Velamas (2.56%). Interestingly, 21.49% of people in the OC category did not disclose their caste, which amounts to over 12 lakh individuals.
The data also shows that upper caste communities lead in areas like education, jobs, land ownership, houses and vehicles. Among landowners, the Reddy community holds the highest share, followed by Yadavs, Lambadas, Mudiraj, Madiga and Munnur Kapu communities. This detailed report provides a clear picture of social and economic distribution across different castes in Telangana.
