A shocking demand of ₹112 crore for changing a film title has created a sensation in the Tamil film industry. Director Vignesh Shivan initially planned to name his latest film ‘LIC’, short for ‘Love Insurance Company’. However, the Life Insurance Corporation of India issued a legal notice, demanding ₹112 crore for the use of the title. The director revealed this in a YouTube interview, stating that he chose to avoid legal complications due to the hefty demand.
Following the notice, Vignesh Shivan explored alternative titles such as LIP, LIT, and LIF before finalising ‘LIK’. He mentioned that the new title not only resolved legal issues but also aligned well with the film’s characters. The movie stars Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shetty, and S. J. Suryah in key roles. After multiple delays, the film was recently released and received a mixed response, while the title controversy continues to generate buzz among audiences.
