In a landmark development for the South Indian film industry, producers across Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam cinema have come together to form the South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA). The historic meeting, held at Hotel Daspalla in Hyderabad, saw participation from leading producers and guild representatives from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The newly formed body aims to protect the collective interests of producers and ensure balanced decision-making within the industry.
The association strongly opposed unilateral decisions taken by other industry stakeholders on key issues such as theatrical regulations and the eight-week OTT release window. Emphasizing that producers are the primary risk-takers sustaining the film ecosystem, SIFPA highlighted that any changes made without their consultation could disrupt the livelihoods of thousands. A high-level steering committee comprising representatives from four states has been established to address ongoing challenges, while reaffirming that rights related to film sales, release schedules, and distribution remain solely with producers.
