The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has upgraded its internal material-transport system by installing a new bag conveyor for carrying essential raw materials into the Tirumala temple kitchen. The old conveyor, which had been in use for nearly 35 years, had become structurally weak and required frequent repairs, posing safety concerns, especially with devotees walking underneath.
Every day, nearly 50 to 65 tons of raw materials are required for preparing prasadam such as laddu, vada, and annaprasadam in the traditional “Potu” kitchen. To avoid inconvenience to devotees at the Maha Dwaram, TTD has been using a conveyor system from the storehouse (ugraanam) behind the temple to transport small sacks directly to the 40-feet-high temple prakaram.
The previous conveyor had been donated decades ago by a Chennai-based company, and it served continuously but eventually wore out. To prevent any untoward incidents, TTD decided to replace it with a modern system. Thanks to a donor’s support, a new conveyor manufactured in Nagpur has now been transported to Tirumala.
Experts are currently inspecting its hydraulic components and structural safety. TTD officials stated that the new conveyor will become fully operational within the next two to three days.
