Dhanurmasam began at Tirumala on December 16 at 1:23 pm and is considered one of the most significant sacred months in the worship of Lord Venkateswara. From the morning of December 17, Suprabhata Seva has been replaced by Tiruppavai Pasura Parayanam, which will continue till January 14. During this period, special rituals such as Sahasranamarchana with bilva leaves, unique kainkaryams, and special prasadam offerings are performed. The Lord is also adorned daily with Srivilliputhur parrots. According to scriptures, Dhanurmasam holds special importance as the devas worship Lord Vishnu during the Brahma Muhurta.
Tiruppavai consists of 30 pasurams composed by Andal (Goda Devi), one of the twelve Alwars, and is an integral part of the Divya Prabandham with great literary significance in Tamil. At Tirumala, one pasuram is recited each day for a month, strictly in seclusion. During this time, Ekanta Seva is performed for Lord Sri Krishna instead of Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy. Certain arjitha sevas like Thomala and Archana will be conducted privately without devotees until January 14, and recommendation letters will not be accepted. Some sevas are cancelled between December 29 and January 1, while from January 2 to 8, select rituals will be held in seclusion. TTD has requested devotees to note these changes and extend their cooperation.
