New traffic arrangements will come into effect on the Vijayawada Bypass from the evening of the 10th of this month. Cars and two-wheelers coming from the Gollapudi side will be allowed to travel up to Highland Road.
So far, vehicles were diverted from the bypass after crossing the Krishna River and Seed Access Road towards Mandadam to reach the Secretariat and High Court areas. Under the revised system, vehicles heading from Gollapudi towards Guntur will also be permitted up to Highland Road. These arrangements are being made by the National Highways Authority of India.
At present, vehicles are not allowed to move ahead after crossing the toll plaza. From the 10th onwards, this restriction will be eased, enabling vehicles to reach Highland Road and then access the Chennai–Kolkata service road after a short distance. Initially, only cars and two-wheelers will be allowed.
From the 20th of this month, heavy vehicles from Gollapudi will also be permitted towards Guntur. Officials said the complete linkage of the Vijayawada Bypass with the Chennai–Kolkata National Highway is expected to be completed next month.
