Telangana is gearing up for another spell of heavy rain as weather conditions take a sudden turn. According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Department, the day will begin with dry and sunny weather, but from afternoon onwards, skies are expected to turn cloudy, leading to thunderstorms and heavy showers in several parts of the state by evening and night. Districts including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Gadwal, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri are likely to witness intense rainfall. The IMD has warned residents to stay indoors during lightning activity and avoid open areas. While Hyderabad city might not experience widespread heavy rain, moderate showers are expected during the evening and night. Light drizzles are also likely in Yadadri, Jangaon, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and nearby districts within the next few hours.
This year, Telangana has already witnessed record-breaking rainfall since the onset of monsoon. Between June and October, the state received 33% more rainfall than usual. October alone saw 175 mm rainfall, which is 96% above normal, largely due to the impact of Cyclone Montha. Bhimadevarapalli in Hanumakonda district recorded an astonishing 422 mm of rain in just 24 hours, setting a new benchmark.
Authorities have urged citizens, especially those in low-lying areas, to stay alert and take necessary precautions as more rain is on the way.
